PowerPoint is ALIVE!

Published by TheJenalleeShow on

Ohhh…. you read that right! This blog post is all about what PowerPoint CAN do! Some people may be think that PowerPoint is flat, dead, or of the past, well we are here to tell you that it is very much alive and better than ever!

Check Out These 6 Things PowerPoint Can Do!

#1 PowerPoint can Record your Computer Screen!

What?!? Forget about purchasing a third party screen recorder, use PowerPoint. Right from within PowerPoint you can record your PowerPoint slide, any website, or desktop item you would like to record.

Ideas for how to use this in the classroom:

  • Flipped classroom videos
  • Modeling steps of a process
  • Review of lessons for absent students
  • Information for parents

#2 Create MP4 Videos

Did you know you can create MP4 videos of your PowerPoints with animation? Check out this video tutorial. 👇

#3 Create a Transparent Background for Images

Have you ever been to a presentation and you see all of the graphics with white box backgrounds? Yes, I know you have… and these presentations have offended all PowerPoint snobs across the world (including Jenallee). Ha! Guess what? PowerPoint will allow you to remove the background of an image 😮 Yep! This makes creating images easy and fast!

#4 Linking to Slides

Create an interactive table of contents within PowerPoint.

A few different ways you can use this in the classroom include:

  • E-book table of contents
  • Digital choice board
  • Choose your own adventure stories or lessons
  • E-Course
  • Interactive Notes
  • Center Work
  • And More…

#5 Translate

Did you know PowerPoint offers translation and subtitles? What!?!

Through the power of Translate.it, PowerPoint can translate everything you are saying as a presenter into whatever (almost any) language your participants need. The participants can have this translation on their personal device, and/or you can show subtitles in the language of your choice at the top of your PowerPoint presentation.

How it works:

  • Download the add-in
  • When you present/run your PowerPoint, a front slide will appear offering a QR code to translate.it where participants can select the language of their choice. Then as you speak, your words will be translated on their screen.
  • The add-in will also offer you as the presenter the ability to display live subtitles at the top of the screen.

Download the add-in & view directions Here

**Update** The translate feature is in the process of being built into PowerPoint! Yay! This means that you may not need to download the add-in. It may be already built into your version of PowerPoint.

#6 Presenter Coach

PowerPoint Presenter Coach offers you intelligent tips to make your presentation the best it can be. It offers you the ability to practice your presentation with a digital coach! It will listen to your presentation and offer tips on how to improve your performance.

Presenter Coach offers you suggestions for:

  • Pacing
  • Inclusive language
  • Filler words like “umm”
  • Reading the slides word for word

Following your practice performance, PowerPoint will offer you a summary of your performance and tips on how to improve.

PowerPoint is ALIVE!

We hope you see the life PowerPoint can bring to your presentations!
