Personalized Feedback with Curipod

Published by TheJenalleeShow on

It’s crunch time y’all! 💪We are preparing for our end of year STAAR tests (state testing) at Castleberry ISD. This year our students will be asked to complete an ECR – Extended Constructed Response. Students will read a passage and answer a writing prompt using evidence from the passage. High school teachers have been equipping our students all year for this new question type. One big piece of teaching our students how to write is offering them timely quality feedback and the opportunity to use that feedback to improve their writing. For teachers, this can be a lengthy task. It can take a long time to read 150 responses (depending on the number of students the teacher has in class) and offer quality feedback within a quick time frame.

As we are entering the final days of prep, our Superintendent called and asked if we could use AI to help speed up this process. Ummm Yeah!! Genius idea 🧠

Our team jumped in and started experimenting with this idea on ChapGPT. We created prompts to go with a passage and the rubric, ran them through ChatGPT, and discovered that it was offering really good feedback in minutes. The hard part is signing up all of our highschool English 1 & 2 students, helping them understand how AI works, how to use it responsibly, and helping them copy and paste the provided prompt and their written response into ChatGPT. Not only that we realized that ChatGPT may not allow all of this heavy traffic from our network and although our students are above 13 it does ask for a phone number. Whew! We can do it, but it is going to be hard with such a limited time frame.

It just so happend that we, Jenallee, had a phone call with our friends from Curipod (an educational AI application company curipod.com) the day before we were getting ready to roll this out. We mentioned to them that we wished Curipod had this option. Eirick smiled and kindly shared that they do.

🤯Say What?!?

Yes, Curipod has Personalized Feedback!

🛑We stopped everything we were doing and started exploring this feature. Our team entered the passage and the rubric in the answer expectation box and WALA – It worked!! Yaaaassss!!

  • Students do not need accounts
  • Students do not need to be over 13
  • Students do not need to enter the prompt
  • The network will not get overloaded
  • Teachers can view all the feedback from the responses window
  • Teachers can display exemplar responses
  • Teachers can facilitate learning in a safe and monitored platform

YAAASSS! We found our solution!

We were so excited to utilize AI in a way that enhances teaching! Throughout our time in the classroom, teachers were having conversations with students about their feedback and helping them decide how to improve their writing. Meaningful conversations were heard all around the room!
